Because we were using the LUCAS, the patient could receive compressions without disrupting the process and placement of the chest tubes. In the second example, the patient was in need of chest tube placement bilaterally. She ended up having an excellent outcome and was discharged later in the week. She was awake and requesting a pen and paper to communicate with us (patient was intubated). In the first example, we were able to get the LUCAS placed quickly, and after 40 minutes of CPR, the patient stabilized.
